Projects of Importance
At our High School, Junior's and Senior's in Public Speaking have the ultimate semester-long project to work on and perfect. We are given a semester to plan, coordinate, and brainstorm ideas for our annual Veteran's Day assembly. We invite Veteran's from all around our hometown and family members of those attending Adair County R-II.

Although it's a lot of effort and many hours to successfully pull it off, our Veteran's deserve the recognition. Our community looks forward to this event each year as us students come up with a different theme every year to thank our hometown Veterans'.

As students it's a big responsibility; however, we enjoy being able to put a smile on someone's face to make them feel the appreciation they deserve.

In 2018, my junior year, our public speaking class had the idea to do a silhouette performance as our special event. Aside from speeches and music performances, this was our primary focus point.
These pictures shown on the left here are images from our silhouette performance. We created cardboard cutouts of what looks like real items to enhance the reality of what Veterans' see on a day-to-day basis.
As a class, we stayed many days after school in order to flawlessly perform the idea we had in our head.
Our days were long, our mornings were early but we were willing to do that anything to show our appreciation for our Veterans'. I will always be thankful for this experience in high school as both years taught me not only more about public speaking, but more about those who served for us and how a simple gesture such as a thank you means so much more than that.
